First Annual Badminton Tourney

Mid-September 2006, Rochester, NY, USA

The event, as we envision it:

  • Approximately 30 teams, totaling roughly 60 people
  • Entire attendance in at least basic antiquated costuming
  • All-day open bar with draught beer and select cocktails (both common and elegant)
  • Food of varied type and substance provided all day
  • Live music
  • Awards/recognition for exemplary costuming and successful teams
  • Double elimination badminton tournament
  • Additional recreations to partake in throughout the day
  • Transportation to select areas in the evening (to allow for enjoyment without consideration of consequences)

Schedule of events (times will vary):

  • Opening cocktail hour (before noon) - serving cocktails (e.g. mimosas) and food (e.g. breakfast finger foods, pastries, and fruit), and accompanied by a local string quartet
  • Opening ceremonies (noonish) - followed by first few rounds of play
  • Second cocktail hour and meal (threeish) - a more substantial meal provided
  • Later rounds of play and championship (late afternoonish) - play continues along with libations
  • Closing ceremonies (sevenish) - play concludes and award winners are recognized
  • Unorganized socialization (until the park closes, around 10) - the fun continues, along with (of course) the drinks
